Old Sanitary Landfill Must Be Capped
The Landfill is not closed.
We still have an inert landfill—stumps, logs, brush, concrete,
rock, dirt, etc. This is still being taken at the
landfill. The C&D (construction and demolition)
products are still being taken also in a roll-off container.
A new C&D trench is still waiting on an engineer and
permitting. As long as this drags along, the County
will not be able to bring in income on the landfill.
The money for the landfill closure is for an earth
cap on the old landfill that was permitted in 1978 and used
to take our household garbage when we had dumpsters.
This is where is the $450,000 closure cost comes in that
has caused the budget problems.
