ANIMAL
CONTROL OFFICER SEEKS ZONING TO BE A PET DEALER AND OPERATE
AN ANIMAL KENNEL
An application
for a zoning variance has been filed for the residence of
the County Animal Control Officer to allow a Pet Dealer
and Animal Kennel. As TWG reported a month ago, there are
kennels behind the residence of the Animal Control Officer.

Animal Control Officer—She’s BACK!!
TWG
questioned whether the Animal Control officer had a license
to have kennels. Georgia Department of Agriculture
records obtained through open records last month show no
license for the existing kennels at this address. There
appears to be some zoning issues and a zoning exception
has been applied for.
The Zoning hearing
will be held this Thursday, May 25, at 7:00p.m. at the Zoning
office (across the street from the Courthouse). The legal
ad run in the Monticello News for the zoning request follows:
Application
2006SE01, owner Levi Head, applicant
Elizabeth Rolfe request for a Special Exception on 13 acres
to allow Pet Dealer/Animal Kennel this tract
is located at 246 Roper Road. This tract is shown as parcel
72 on tax map 10.
TWG
questions whether there is a conflict for the
County Animal Control officer to also be a Pet Dealer.
What kind of
kennels will be run? Will the officer be paid to “house
animals” as some people in the county are being paid to
do? These kind of issues need to be resolved before any
zoning action is granted.
Your chance
to comment will be Thursday, May 25, at 7:00 p.m.
