JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT IS HIGHLY PAID
There was an article in the AJC recently about the problems in the
Clayton County Schools. That system is
again facing a loss of accreditation which means students would not qualify for
scholarships, Hope Grants, or even admission to many colleges.
Some
interesting statistics were in this article:
Clayton County is the 5th largest School System in
the State with 62 Schools and 51,948 students. As of the year ended June 30, 2006 (6/30/06)
the Superintendent was paid $189,593 plus a travel supplement of $12,640.
TWG has heard complaints for years about the high compensation of the Superintendent of
Jasper County Schools.
Superintendent Brinson’s latest contract shows
a salary of $133,900 per year plus a $10,000 annual Tax Sheltered Annuity,
as well as a vehicle provided by the taxpayers for both his business and
personal use. His contract states he can use the vehicle anytime and anywhere.
Below
is a chart showing a comparison of Salaries, number of Schools, and number of
students in surrounding counties. Cost
per student is based on Salary only since TWG does not know the actual cost or value of vehicle
expenses for Superintendent Brinson.
