Public
Works Director Suspended
Rumors have circulated for a couple of weeks about Larry
Thurman, the Public Works director, being suspended. According
to a response to an Open Records request, “Mr. Thurman is
in fact on paid administrative leave during an
on-going investigation into a complaint filed against him.”
Information from the investigation was presented to the
Board of Commissioners for action on Tuesday, October 16,
2007. After the BOC meeting, Commissioners were asked if
the Public Works director had been fired. The response,
“We don’t hire and fire, the County Manager does that.”
The County Manager was then asked if Mr. Thurman still had
a job. The response, “At this time he does.” Unconfirmed
reports are that the suspension is/was for 15 days. See warning from County to Larry Thurman here: www.taxdogs.com/113007thurmanwarning.pdf
